Gentle and his ability to save a life, literally.

Chuck had purchased an R/V in which he and Gentle were living. Late one night, he was jolted awake by a body slam from Gentle. In spite of labored breathing and burning eyes, Chuck realized that there was a problem- exhaust fumes from the backup generator were poisoning them both with Carbon Monoxide. Gentle could have gone to the front of the R/V where the air was better, but he loved Chuck enough to wake him up and literally, saved his life. This act in a situation of real danger was the “proof” of love.

Gentle's love of walking on leash with Chuck has led to physical fitness for them both. When they discover a plot of lush grass, Chuck will let Gentle off the leash and Gentle will roll in the grass. Chuck calls this a "happy roll". While on one of their walks, Chuck created a song for Gentle and his rolling habit. It is to the tune of “Happy Trails” – I am including a link to a video of the song for your enjoyment - it sure makes me smile. The sound of such a peaceful, joyful song sung over this beloved life-saving dog is a tribute to the life-changing power of love. My favorite part is at the end when Chuck calls Gentle to him – Gentle's response. Enjoy!

There is one last thing that Chuck said to me that I found was the key to love's life-changing power – If he hadn’t let go of his anger he would have never been able to feel the joy in Gentle's “happy roll”.

What would you gain by letting go of the anger or other issues that you are holding on to? God has so much more for us that we can even wrap our brains around. If our hands and heads are full of the stuff we need to let go of, how can our hearts ever hold on to what He has for us.

Thank you to Chuck for sharing his story with us and giving us the much needed reminder that love really can change things.
