Hiring, Retaining, and Engaging Part 2

An unprecedented number of Americans decided to quit their jobs in December 2021. It became a common theme everywhere, including on social media; resulting in the hashtag #TheGreatResignation. In 2022, employers are still having trouble filling their open positions; it is hard to miss the “help wanted” signs posted everywhere.

In my survey, I focused on two main points:

  1. How critical is hiring to your business?
  2. What factors are most important for you in Hiring new workers - including hard and soft skills, cultural fit, and other characteristics.

Question #1

How critical is hiring to your business?

The results reflected that one-half of the respondents rated hiring as highly critical, which was the highest level. The percentage increased when I removed solopreneurs and companies with fewer than 7 teammates.

Question #2

What factors are most important for you in Hiring new workers?

There were four factors that were indicated as most important, both in quantity and percentage that the factor was checked.

I concluded that hiring is very important to all companies, but even more important the larger the company.

I also noted that the top four important factors were as follows -  listed in rank order. Cultural fit regularly appeared as the fourth factor, and was not dependent on company size.

  1. EQ & Common Sense (Soft Skills)
  2. Attitude
  3. Relevant Experience (Hard Skills)
  4. Cultural Fit

So far, I’ve explained the methodology used for my Teamwork survey, and factors involved in hiring employees.

In my next blog, I will share how companies viewed the importance of retaining/keeping their employees.
