The Art of Procrastination

Do you ever feel like your time is never enough to complete all the tasks you need to do during the day? As time progresses in our life, the "work" we have to do seems to increase while the time seems to shorten. Because of this, you categorize the tasks that need to get done by priority. The ones that need to get done right away, the ones that can be done later on the week, the ones that need to get done but can wait... And then, of course, the ones that have waited over a month and now NEED to get done!

However, even though you prioritize the tasks, you feel like you never accomplish anything because you always have too much on your plate. There is always something that needs to be done, and the list never shrinks. Instead, it gets bigger and bigger.

I learned that procrastination is an art rather than a curse. What I mean is that when you are procrastinating you are doing a task that is not in your Strengths. Sometimes there are things that you know will take you longer than you would want to spend on today; or maybe, you know you can do it quickly but you just do not feel like you are in the mood to work on it today.

You procrastinate because deep down you know it is not your Strength - just thinking about the task frustrates you and changes your entire mood, so you leave it for later. After all, it is not a priority and can wait until the last minute.

This article talks about how procrastination is not the same as laziness. You may feel like there are things that you do not get done in the timely manner you wish to, but that does not mean that you are not doing your best. You need to focus on the tasks you enjoy and are good at. After all, some things CAN and SHOULD be done by someone else.

Learn your strengths and work on them instead of trying to work on things that simply are not "your thing."
