Thriving Teams!

Thriving Teams!

I came across a blog post recently that really got my attention. Even if you don’t read the blog post the title alone will likely cause you to ponder for a moment, it sure did me. “Help your employees find their purpose, or watch them leave.”

Over the last year and a half, we have seen so many changes in our world. Some have been good, some not so much. One of the most interesting things that I believe has happened is the self-reflection that a worldwide pandemic has caused. From the post: “Research has shown that two-thirds of US-based employees said that COVID-19 has caused them to reflect on their purpose in life.”

This is a good thing for individuals. If a company isn’t aware of what is happening though, they could lose some great employees. There are things that a company can do to help their employees find their purpose and THRIVE!

As business owners or leaders, it is likely that you have spent a lot of time coming up with your business's “purpose” or mission statement. If you haven't already considered how each of your employees ties in their own personal purpose to your business purpose -  the time is now.

Three out of four people say that their purpose in life is defined by their work. So the fact that they are working for your company does give you a pretty good chance that they already buy into your company's purpose.

Is your company’s purpose clear? If you asked your employees to tell you what your company's purpose was, how many would get it correct?

Many companies have mission statements on the wall that nobody pays attention to …

Are the core values and beliefs of your company in alignment with your own? What about the majority of the employees?

The article suggests three important things that you as a company could do to help your employees connect with their purpose:

  • Start with the organization’s purpose (hint: the only thing you control directly)
  • Reflect, connect, repeat
  • Help people live their purpose at work

Which one of these three do you think would be the most important for you to work on immediately?
