Over the last few weeks, I have been sharing information about how appreciation, when done correctly, can impact your business.
If you haven’t seen those blogs yet, please check them out here:
WHY IS APPRECIATION IMPORTANT?
Remember, appreciation is more than just a “thanks.” It should be done on an individual basis, not globally. It should be personalized, genuine, and delivered directly to the recipient. It is not the same as employee recognition. For it to be impactful, it needs to have value to the recipient; it needs to mean something to the employee.
Appreciation has been ranked as the top factor for keeping employees engaged. Surprisingly, only 12% of people say that they would leave for more money. They place more value on having recognition and appreciation communicated than they do on what they are being paid.
The idea behind appreciation is to show your employees that they are needed and that the work they do is appreciated by management and clients or customers. This creates an environment that is conducive to cooperation, motivation, and positivity, all of which enhance a team’s ability to work well together.
By showing appreciation one can lower the 79% of employees who quit because of a lack of appreciation. It’s also clear that to excel in a role as a leader, one needs to stimulate one’s employees’ talents and productive strengths by showing appreciation at the individual level. People feel appreciated in different ways, so tailoring the approach to what resonates with each person is key.
These are just a few ideas of showing appreciation to those who assist the company with clients' and customers’ needs.
· Buy breakfast or lunch
· Thank you notes
· Express gratitude on social media
· Celebrate anniversaries and milestones
· Have employees give and receive props from their peers
· Gift cards
· Extra time off for something exceptional
Which of these things will you commit to doing to help show appreciation to your team?
